Overview
This webinar is broken into two sections. The first by Ms. Dana Greely, Forensic Scientist with the Hamilton County Coroner's Laboratory in Cincinnati, OH, titled "Shooting Through Closed Windows: A Study of Gunshot Residue". Picture this: A man is sitting in a chair watching TV in his living room. It is winter and the windows are closed and so are the blinds. Suddenly there are six shots fired from the front yard into the front window. Two of these shots hit the man, killing him where he sits. Can GSR travel with the bullet through the glass? Do you expect to find GSR on the man? Do you expect to find GSR on the other surfaces the bullets hit?
To answer these questions, a study was designed simulating the above scenario and it was repeated multiple times. Samples were collected from various areas within the enclosed space using adhesive lifters. These samples (over 120 in total) were taken back to the lab and analyzed by SEM/EDS for the presence of GSR. This presentation will share with you the results of these studies and discuss the value of the findings.
A certificate of completion is available for all who register and attend this webinar.
