Overview
The Houston Area Women’s Center’s & Houston Police Department’s experiences will provide attendees greater insight into how collaboration across community- and systems-based advocacy can enhance law enforcement’s response to sexual assault survivors.
Detailed Learning Objectives
- Understand how the HAWC-HPD collaboration evolved to create the “Understanding Victim Response: The Neurobiology of Trauma” program.
- Recognize the importance of training on the definition of sexual violence, perpetrator profile and means of perpetration, survivors’ trauma response, perpetration numbers versus limited accountability, and other reasons why survivors fail to report.
- Identify results from the HAWC-HPC collaboration including successes, challenges, and next steps.
